The inner (red) insulation can bunch up and wear out if using with wet hands.I layer liners below at about -5C (but I have cold fingers and I am from a warm-weather area). About as much as the Heli but less than the BD guides for instance. Not sure how well it would withstand abuse like an all-leather BD Guide. The outside has been pretty durable so far despite the softness. They are waterproof, although like most gloves, the outside will wet out. They are very easy on/off and the gauntlet sealing mechanism is super easy to use (helped by the softness of the glove). They are extremely soft and comfortable.Better than the Heli non-GTX (which are pretty supple) and definitely better than the Heli GTX. These are by far the most dexterous ski gloves I have ever used.I have used a couple of Hestras (Heli GTX and non GTX), BD Guides and others like Dakine Titans. Too many truckers' hats and too few quality gloves! Neither is really warm and the Rivet does not work as a liner for the Venta AR.They should have a RHO SL, RHO LT, and a RHO SV or bring back a screen-compatible version of the Delta glove which was decently warm as a liner.

The same goes for their liners offering: you have the RHO and the Rivet and then nothing. They should add a Venta SV with a Gore-Tex membrane and better insulation than the Venta AR. Depending on conditions, the Venta AR can be completely inadequate but you'll have to overkill it by using the Fission if you don't have gap-fillers from other brands. There is a huge gap between the level of warmth (and weather resistance) offered by the Venta AR and the Fission SV. You have the Venta which is a windshell glove, the Venta AR, and then the Fission SV. In general, The problem with Arc'teryx gloves compared to other brands is that they have huge gaps in their gloves offering. The reason I never got Hestra is because on their website they have two hundred gloves and descriptions aren't very detailed so if you are not familiar with the brand, it's not intuitive to figure out what you need and it's always a lottery whether gloves fit your or not! Then I stumbled on Fission gloves on sale and Arc' gloves usually fit me perfectly so went for them instead. If you can get them with a discount, the Fission SV are good gloves. Definitely better than my cheaper Montane and Haglofs gloves but completely agree that if you'd have to pay RRP on them, there's gloves with better price-quality ratio out there. Warmer, the liner has no play when pulling out the hand. The best deal were the older Fission gloves and mitts: they went on clearance when discontinued but I find the quality of the SV to be noticeably better than the older Fission gloves. I have no doubt it will perform as it should when it gets wet as well.Got my first one 30% off which is not bad. Protection: 5 stars, windproof as expected (it's a gore shell after all lol). Warmth: 5 stars (esp for its super light weight!)īreathability: With the minimal use so far 5 stars (we'll see how it goes when I use it under harsh /more active conditions.the pit-zips I'm sure will go a ways)
#Arc teryx fission sl update#
(when I figure out how do edit, I'll come back and update this as I use it this season and beyond) Layered with Patagonia R1 & silkweight-t. So the testing:ĭay one: 25 degrees w/9 degree wind chill and mostly sunny. I own the Fission SV, and essentially got the SL for less extreme use, and every day around town (picked it up in black for that reason.fyi the black WILL absorb that sun.my back was getting hot!). I was surprised at how warm it is for its weight. Great coverage with the drop tail, and the close fit seals in the warmth, and increases mobility. Very long arms for reaching /placing a screw and so on. Constructed with the athlete in mind, in other words not so great for folks with large bellies. If you're familiar with the way Arc'teryx fits, this is the same fit you've come to know and love. Laminated 2.7 oz ThermaTek™ non-quilted construction. So here are some of the tech specs taken from Arc'teryx's website: In other words it looks like this has been in development for over 2 years. I called Arc'teryx back then about tracking it down, but even the rep wasn't aware of it being made lol. I saw the details listed for this some 2+ years ago. Got this one on a pro-deal (sorry folks lol). The Fission SL is the lightest, fully waterproof, insulated jacket by ARCTERYX that is outstanding in cold wet weather.
